NAMI Lansing is dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families who are affected by neurobiological brain disorders through support, education, advocacy, and research.

As the blades of grass in our logo symbolize, NAMI Lansing is a non-profit, self-help, volunteer organization.

The iris was chosen as a symbol of hope from a painting by Vincent Van Gogh while he was hospitalized.

Come and learn about the psycho-social rehabilitation model that empowers persons with mental illnesss.   Charter House provides structure, pre-employment training skills, short term employment, and socialization opportunities.  In addition the Community Work Employment Program which helps members and other persons in recovery to find jobs in the community will be highlighted.

UPCOMING EDUCATION CLASS FOR FAMILIES

Beginning March 25 Family to Family class.

              There will be a Family-to-Family class beginning on March 25, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.  which  will meet for 12 weeks at the Ingham County Human Services Building Room C located at 5303 S. Cedar St.  Lansing.    This class is designed to help family members of someone with mental illness (schizophrenia, bipolar or manic depression, severe depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder, etc.)  There is no cost involved to the participants except a commitment to attend and learn and share and hopefully to advocate for better understanding and treatment of mental illness. 

This class was developed by the National Alliance on Mental Illness over many years by Joyce Burland, Ph.D.  It incorporates factual information, emotional healing, and coping strategies, as well as learning to interact with professionals.   Information will be given throughout the class on local resources.  You may check out more information at www.nami.org . The class is led by family members who have a loved one with one of the mental illnesses mentioned and have been trained by NAMI.   The material is updated regularly.
